Healthy Lesotho Donation Strengthens Patient Care at Maluti Adventist Hospital

Maluti Adventist Hospital recently received a generous donation of essential medical equipment from Healthy Lesotho, a non-profit organisation based in Seattle, United States, founded by Dr. Barbara Meyer and Terry Ellard. The organisation supports agricultural and healthcare initiatives in Lesotho and has maintained a longstanding relationship with Maluti Adventist Hospital.

Over the years, Healthy Lesotho has played an important role in strengthening healthcare services at the hospital through fundraising and equipment donations. Previous contributions have supported the maternity and neonatal units, providing much-needed equipment at a time when some items were outdated and others had to be shared across departments. These donations included essential equipment such as infant incubators and other maternity and neonatal supplies, helping to improve the quality of care for mothers and newborns.

As part of its continued support, Healthy Lesotho recently donated additional essential medical equipment aimed at strengthening patient care across several departments. The donation included a dental chair, 31 heaters for hospital wards, IV infusion pumps, syringe pumps, nebulisers, oximeters for newborns, specialised masks and airways for oxygen therapy in newborns, as well as water pumps for the hospital borehole system.

The donation comes at a particularly important time as temperatures continue to drop during the winter season. The ward heaters will help create a warmer and more comfortable environment for patients, supporting recovery and improving patient comfort. Maintaining adequate warmth is especially important for vulnerable patients, including the elderly, young children, and those recovering from illness or surgery.

The donated equipment is also expected to strengthen monitoring and treatment services across the hospital. Neonatal equipment will support improved care for newborns requiring oxygen therapy and monitoring, while infusion pumps, syringe pumps, and nebulisers will enhance the hospital’s ability to provide safe and effective treatment. The water pumps are expected to improve sustainability by reducing reliance on external water supply and improving access through the borehole system.

Maluti Adventist Hospital expresses its sincere appreciation for the continued partnership and support provided by Healthy Lesotho over the years. This donation reflects the organisation’s ongoing commitment to strengthening healthcare services and improving patient care for the communities served by the hospital.
